Colourful Toy Cars at Waterloopleinmarkt

  • by

Cars in concentric circles carefully arranged in colour groups rather than piled in a box. It kind of reminded me of the cars driving around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Many of the merchants at Waterlooplein market regularly demonstrate artistic expression and creativity to draw customers attention. Strolling through Waterlooplein market is a step back in time. A steady stream of people browse through vintage clothing and memorabilia from the ‘Hippie’ age.

NDSM Russian Submarine

  • by

Take a trip from Central Station on one of the free local ferries to the NDSM, a former shipyard which is now home to Amsterdam’s creative and artistic community. As you approach the landing point, you’ll see this Soviet Zulu class submarine docked in the harbour. The owners had hoped to turn it into a unique party venue, but plans were abandoned and it’s now for sale.

Posthoornkerk

  • by

The Posthoornkerk church is the first church in Amsterdam designed by architect PJH Cuypers, who later went on to design Amsterdam central station and the Rijksmuseum.

Construction of the church began in September 1861. The church towers were erected between 1887 and 1889.

In the 1970s the church was threatened with demolition but thankfully this was avoided and in 1989 the renovated building was be opened.

The Fault In Our Stars Bench Amsterdam

  • by

The Fault in Our Stars fans showing their love at “the bench” in Leidsegracht Amsterdam with lovelocks and graffiti. There’s often a constant line of people waiting to have their photo taken sitting on the bench where Hazel & Gus sat. The original bench was actually stolen shortly after the film was released! The city council quickly replaced it 🙂 #tfios #theFaultInOurStars #bench #okayokay #leidsegracht #canal #amsterdam #netherlands

Amsterdam Brewing Company

Cafè de Saloon located on the Lijnbaangracht canal in the Spiegelkwartier district. The Cafè in this tall elegant building began in 1971 as a Wild West theme bar. The bar inside has a warm friendly atmosphere and, as you would expect, is long and narrow! The large terrace outside is a great place to enjoy one of their fine home brewed beers and watch the world go by. De Saloon also serves breakfasts, lunches, snacks and evening meals.#Cafè #cafeDeSaloon #bar #pub #long #tall #architecture #lijnbaansgracht #amsterdam #netherlands

Amsterdam horse and carriage rides

It was a beautiful sunny day in Amsterdam today. Enjoyed an tasty uitsmijter for lunch with the family at Il Panorama Italian Café on the Herengracht. There are nice views from the windows and we caught sight of one of the horse & carriage rides going by! These can be hired in Dam Square and cost around €45 for a 30 minute tour. #horse #carriage #tours #herengracht #amsterdam #holland #netherlands

Keizersgracht Canal Houseboats

It’s not the coffee shops. It’s not the red light district. It’s not the tulips. It’s the canals and canal houses that make Amsterdam so special and set it apart from other world capitals. #canal #canalhouse #canalboat #houseboat #keizergracht #streetlamp #amsterdam #holland #netherlands #winter

Keizersgracht 42

  • by

De Groenlandse Pakhuizen (Greenland Warehouses) are a series of three monumental waterfront warehouses at Keizersgracht 44 in the western Canal District. The three buildings have step-gables which is rare in Amsterdam as most have spout gables. The red shutters look particularly vibrant when the sun strikes them in the morning!

The warehouses were built by some participants in the Nordic or Greenland Whaling Company and date back to 1620. They are now converted into luxury apartments.
