The advantage of visiting Amsterdam in the winter is that the trees have lost their leaves revealing more of the beautiful canal houses.
Keizersgracht is one of the three main concentric canals in Amsterdam dating back to the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th-century.
The canals in Amsterdam’s centre are home to around 750 houseboats. These started to appear shortly after the Second World War due to a housing shortage in the city. Most are occupied by local residents but it’s also possible for visitors to rent one short-term.
