Greetings from NYC! We are visiting AMS on May 6th and we would love to visit a tulip field. I was just recommended of going to Hillegom. We are planning to visit on the 6th itself. Hopefully, knowing you had a late bloom of tulips the flowers will still be there. 🙂
The flowers are planted and harvested in phases. At the moment it’s mainly hyacinths and the tulips are just staring to appear. I’m sure that you will find some flowers in bloom when you visit.
Noordwijk, Noordwijkhout and Heiloo are also worth considering and fairly close by. There’s also some other field further north near Lelystad.
Hi Nigel, Thank you so much for the prompt response. That is a bit assuring and a glimmer of hope that we will still be able to see flower fields on May 6th. I am bringing my Mom and aunt who are such flower lovers to see the fields on May 6th and visit the Keukenhof Gardens on May 7th. I can only visit these fields via public transportation since we cannot drive and my mom can’t ride a bicycle. Are the places you mentioned close to public transportation? What do you suggest. I thank you so much in advance for your help!
Hillegom is definitely a good option for public transport because the station is close to some of the bulb fields. The train ride between Hillegom and Leiden also has a few fields which are visible from the train.
It’s really difficult to know what will be visible next weekend because the flowers are continually being cut. Probably the beat trick would be to search on Instagram for photos from the following locations:
